New NC 30 Install

Just wanted to get a couple pics up because I know we all like them. Extending the Hearth is stalled and waiting for my neighbor(electrician) to come over and move my plug up behind the TV solving the dangling cord issues and allowing me to finish the corner. The rest was the original hearth I installed last fall for my VC Defiant you can see in the corner making a really heavy light stand. It will probably be a decoration for a while until I get enough man power over here to move it out. Hard to see but I have a stair stepped 1/2 wall at the break in the hearth to keep the splits in place. I left a brick out at the base of the 1/2 wall in the even I want to add an OAK later it will be available. I also installed the ceramic tile in the floor to keep with code and not eat up too much living space with the 9x4x4 Paver bricks and having a monster toe stubber.

Once finished and sealed this should keep the floor dry if snow comes in on the wood and to some degree keep the mess in it's place. As you can see my reason for having only one critism of this stove - the RH opening. If it were a lefty it would be perfect but I can move a lot of wood around the door for 1500 bucks.

Glass is a little dirty because my morning warm up fire is winding down. Nothing a scotch pad and a little soapy water cannot cure in seconds.

Looks nice. How long has the TV been there and how does it handle the heat?

My TV/appliance guy is my brother-in-law and the rule of thumb is if a candle does not melt the TV won't. Last year I put candles along the top of the television and they didn't move so I think I am good to go. I had candles along the back of the hearth and only the one in the middle right behind the stove pipe ever even looked like it wanted to melt. That said it was my old stove - this nuclear reactor I just installed may change the rules?? I will be doing some candle testing once the true burning season gets underway.

I guess time will tell how good that test works but so far so good.

The TV will be fine. It is up higher but mine has been four feet from the left side of the stove for 30 years. And the radiant heat from the side of the bad boy and its predecessor is a lot more than up a ceiling level.

Never have understood people that want to hold splits in their left hand if they are right handed.

BBart - but I'm a southpaw - not that that even came to mind. When you have done everything with your left hand your entire life you never even know the world is designed for RH people. My real reason is where I am placing my wood to the left of the stove.

Door pretty much swings wide open so it really does not matter and I just cannot get enough of how this stove throws heat. Just got in from hunting, threw in a couple splits and the thing is above 400 with secondaries playing a light show in no time.

Be sure to always swing that door wide open on that raised hearth. First year with the 30 I just opened it halfway to put in the night load. And turned left and sat my chin right on top of that door. The burn under my chin was there long after the cussing stopped.
