Just bought a newmac wood/oil combo (not sure of model #) and in the manual it says they advise AGAINST using the wood portion during the fall/spring. What is the story behind this?

here's my guess - typically your load will be less in spring and fall, than winter. basically, i think it is saying you will have alot more idle time, than running the boiler flat out. idle time = creosote.
