We just bought a new VC Defiant. I've got the stove where I want it and began connecting the newly purchased oval connector. It fits snug in the front and back, but on both sides, there is enough space to fit a pen through. While the side screws might pull the oval stove pipe out and close the gap slightly, shouldn't the oval connector fit snugly all around before secured in place with screws?

Thanks

Sizing on the oval connector accurate? Surprised no one stopped in to give you suggestions ...

I was just over a friend's house yesterday who purchased the same stove last year. The oval connector that they purchased (from a different dealer) fits their flue collar much snugger. So, I am going to return the connector that was sold to us with our stove and get another one.

Glad to hear you came up with a different connector ... keep us posted on how you make out. Will there be a problem with the different (brand I'm judging) connector and the remaining stove pipe?

I returned to the dealer and exchanged for a new oval adapter from a different company that fit. There was a distinct difference in the shape from the first adapter to the second... the second actually being a more traditional oval shape. I have to imagine everyone that they were selling that adapter to with new Defiant's had the same problem. Though I might assume some paid to have their stoves fully installed and may not be seasoned-enough burners to recognize that large spaces in the flue collar are not correct. They probably will when their stove emits a little smoke when starting up.

So, there's nothing wrong with the stove's flue collar shape.

Thanks for the comments.

I am having the same exact problem! Go figure... Do you happen to know the manufacturer of the pie you purchased?

As an aside, the retailer told me the 1/2" gaps on the side are fine... Suppose they are if you don't mind the smoke and soot on start up and huge loss of efficiency...

although not ideal the gaps really shouldn't pose a huge issue if the flue system is working correctly as it is continuously pulling air in - not letting smoke out. All the same I would not want the big gaps showing just for aesthetics alone but being a tinker I would have probably monkeyed with the pipe I had instead of going to get the right one. Good on you for not tinkering.
