I was given this Kodiak stove and have questions about it. It has a shaker handle on the outside but inside it has a steel plate with firebrick on top of it. It did not come with a grate of any kind. Can anyone tell me anything about it or point me in the right direction for info?

Thanks

Maybe converted from coal burning to wood burning by eliminating the grate and reducing air fed under the fire?

A friend came over and we dug into it . There is/was a steel plate on top of the shaker grate. It was a tight fit but I managed to get it out. The shaker grate looks perfect and it functions as it should with the handle. Were they primarily coal stoves?

I think so. Check out the coalpail.com forum for more details on the stove.
