Not sure how to build the hearth area for Century FW300007

Might anyone know the manf. r value specs. required under a Century FW300007 that heats 2000 ft?

I’m trying to figure out what I need to place over the 3/4” plywood subfloor. I was planning on just laying Durock over it and then tile the area. But after reading several threads it sounds like I may need to do something more extensive if there are requirements for the stove.

I haven’t been able to find anything on a manufacture’s r value requirements for the hearth materials on the floor and combustibles under neath.

I would sure appreciate any tips as I am again at a stand still til I get beyond this new dilemma.....

I'm sure you have already read this, but according to the Vermont Castings website, your stove's hearth requirements are at least a 3/8" thick non-combustible millboard or equivalent. It also says a grouted ceramic tile floor is also considered an equivalent. It appears that all your stove needs is a non-combustible surface to sit on.

So, if you put down a sheet of Durock over your plywood and then tile it, you should more than meet this requirement. Make sure your hearth also meets the size requirements.

My stove is the same way, it really didn't require a specific R-value hearth, just a "non-combustible" one. Your stove probably does not radiate much heat onto the floor, hence the need for only a non-combustible hearth.

Go to the linked web page, it's the same link that I provided in response to your post yesterday; you'll see links to several documents on the stove. The information you need is in the insert sheet (clearances to wall) and the manual (details regarding installation on combustible floors is in the paragraph entitled “Installation on a Combustible Floor.”). You should also have gotten copies of these documents when you bought the stove.

I had read those manufacture specs. on my stove. But became concerned after reading many of the threads where elaborate hearths are required along with the fact there is little to no support from Century and their info is sparse.

Thought it more affordable and prudent to ask what might be a stupid question than to get this thing in and burn down my house.... ~
