Ya but what is wrong with Heat 1 draft 3, what don't you like ? I thought you ran it there overnight last night and had tan ash on the glass, No?

FWIW, I take a paper towel ( dry) and wipe my glass off when ever. I save the glass cleaner or water for when the stove is off and cool. But I just open the door with it running and wipe the glass any old time I feel like. With a Harman we open the door to scrape the pot anyway, also with the stove running..

H1/D3: yes sure did. Was a good coating on the glass, just seemed like it was excessive for an overnight. Plus flame seems lazier, if I understand it right. When the fan kicks on its good so I might just try that again and see what happens. I got to look at the weather forecast. Tho 70 in the main room still ain't bad lol. I'm really just trying to find that clean glass for a week or more setting lol.

Have you tried heat 2 draft 3 ? And ya, you want the room fan kicking on of course ! Is there a feed setting ? I think I saw that there was yesterday but don't recall exactly.
 
It was on H2/D4 all day with much the same result as H1/D3. Which I suppose is good lol. I read a few old posts where you can adjust the feed rate for a given heat setting.

Some of this ash you are getting could be the pellets. Various brands have more ash than others. And some are terrible ( I'm not saying yours are terrible). My stove has a large ash pan that generally needs dumping somewhere between 3 weeks to 5 weeks, totally depending on pellet grade. Well I got a batch one time that I didn't make a full week and had mounds of ash building up on the burn pot that had to be scraped several times a day. Terrible pellets the worst I ever had and the only pellets I ever returned to get my money back. TSC are usually mid grade, FWIW. I'm sure there are lower ash pellets out there. Ash isn't the end of the world though if you get good heat too. Those crappy pellets I ran into didn't heat well either.

Yesterday I mentioned lowering the feed a little bit and raising the draft a little bit.
 
Agreed. Putting out good heat so not complaining, just trying to make it better :) It's been our sole heat since Sunday PM and main room hasn't gotten below 70 :)

So H1/D3 overnight. Glass coated with tan. An inch or two at top is blacker. Outside low 20s, teens with wind chill. Main room 75. Flame gets down to almost nothing then back to ok, just seems odd.

In my house upper 70's or even 80 in the main room ( stove room/living room) puts the dining room around 74(where the house thermostat is located), then outer rooms are a bit cooler from there. My heat dial is about half way FWIW, depending on mode of course. These temps make sleeping upstairs comfortable with a blanket and comforter on the bed but not uncomfortable to get up and go to the bathroom either..

I need to do something with my studio room, when it got remodeled they left a big gap with no insulation in a storage area with loose doors no less, and that just pours cold air out into the dining room in a wsw wind. I may have to lose that storage area or part of it anyway and fill it with insulation.

Watch when the flame dies down, is it after a drop of fuel into the pot or before a drop of fuel into the pot. I suspect after.
 
So for the glass: doing more reading (shocker) I checked my interior gasket around it and guess what? No gap at bottom where the slit in the bracket is for the air wash. Argh. So once door is cooled enough I'm going to cut the 4" gap in that's supposed to be there. Glass was getting pretty black again, tho not caked solid yet.

Flame: seems like before pellet feed. Almost like it's running out of fuel. Does beautiful during start up but long term doesn't stay that way. I checked the hopper for the auger cover with the wingnut that I've read about and didn't find such a thing, but hopper isn't empty yet so might be missing it.

I'm thinking baby steps. Give the modified gasket a day and see what it looks like. Then maybe look at feed rates sine (hopefully) I'll be able to see the fire lol :)

Yes Yes, I've read about that gasket not being cut before, good find !

Feed ? What's that ? LOL
 
For myself, think I would just cut a smaller chunk out of the gasket to see if that improves airwash first. Hopefully won't effect vacuum switch... Could trade one problem for another<>
 
So after a day of burning in all auto glass was pretty black save where the new gap in the gasket is lol. Stove ended up running out of pellets at some point today. So for what it's worth its on H2/D3 for the moment. Tried D4 but seemed to die way down. 3 seems to be doing well so far.

And ash vac should be here next week :) So far doing pretty well on H2/D3. Prob back down to H1 overnight. Not supposed to be too cold. 20s I think.

Many stoves just don't burn so clean on their lowest settings, I know when the Harman gets in a low burn it's dirtier than in the mid ranges. So it makes sense to me that H2 would be cleaner than H1. Even so, feed and air is where it's at. Keep at it LOL !
 
Yeah that's kinda what I'm thinking too. It did really well on H2/D3 but I'm pretty sure it'd be a sauna I'm here this AM if I left it. Was on H1/D2 overnight and its 75 on the tstat this morning. Glass isn't terrible. But I guess I'd rather that than pushing it on H5 constantly and freezing :)

Can that stove be wired to a T stat ? Then you could put it in one of the cleaner burning modes and have it start and stop. It would be a glorified Room Temp mode. I bet there is a way.
 
I've read bits and pcs on threads here and there that you can buy I haven't really checked at all. I think that would be the ticket if I can, good call!

Yep it'll do just fine. And if the kids would leave their doors open it would be decent in their rooms too lol. They'll figure it out before long I spose lol.

My sister in law is living with us for shall we say " a season" ( IE. what ever the duration, shes a real true hard luck case). Anyway, I put a louvered door on her room ( the lower half of the door is louvers), then she can have heat. I suppose if she has any toys in there she has to keep the noise level down somehow but that's her problem. She has not complained that it is cold, in fact a couple of times she was wondering if I had the heat on in the night because it was rather warm.

Our bedroom is upstairs too, I just leave the door cracked open when she is around and we get plenty of heat and the cats can come and go. When she isn't around our door is wide open.

Cool ! If you run it sucking up in the center it will push the warm air down the side walls. Let us know how it does for you.
