Nothing says happy New Year like a 50/50 load of locust and oak

My favorite way to load the stove on a cold day. Half oak (some red some white) and half black locust. Seems to work best with oak on the bottom and locust on the top. 25 degrees and dropping outside, stove top at 650 in the basement and 71 degrees on the first floor above. This is almost 4 hours into the burn. Happy New Year!

Nice. I usually do locust and cherry. The locust doesn't take off so well and my oak never seems to be dry enough, that's where the cherry comes in. Rocket fuel to get my locust going.

Same idea here, the Locust will burn fine on it 's own but sometimes will take a while to really get cranking. The nicely seasoned oak on the bottom gets things cranking quickly and the faster the stove gets up to temp the less the oil furnace runs.
