I know, I know you won't believe it without pics and I'll work on it. Over the past three weeks I've been working a wind fallen oak, red I believe, that my neighbor lined up for me. So far we've split two trailer loads and there's at least three more waiting (more likely four). I'm stacking it out in the back acre where it will get much more wind and sun than if I put it with the rest of my stacks. I'm getting a head start on 2018-2019.

That will be good stuff there. I am working on a LARGE shagbark hickory For the same years as you.

There are a ton of blowdowns around here the last couple days. I went after a massive oak, but, the homeowner says he is going to keep it, although he doesn't have a saw big enough. The same guy also lost a huge branch from a sugar maple.

Here you go plus one pic of my stacks for good measure:

I also left out three more stacks that are in a different part of the yard.

Here's what's left to cut and about 1/2 of the pile is now left to split after tonight's splitting session plus my wood hauling rig in the background:

This neighbor is a good friend and is always finding me firewood. Heck, his son has scrounged about 5 cords of ash and hickory because he knew I needed it.

Where I'm cutting this tree I've gotten another load of oak and walnut and hedge apple.

It's great to have sources like that. Over the past couple of years, I've managed to develop a network of several people that call me when they have wood to get rid of. What a blessing...I've never had to pay for wood so far. You mentioned hedge apple...I love that stuff. I only burn it overnight though, because it pops like crazy!

I've burned only a small amount because that's all I had that was seasoned. However, this year I have about half a cord that is ready to go. Everyone at work knows I burn and call me when they have some wood they need gone. I'm so obsessed one of my great friends walks away anytime anyone asks me about firewood because he knows it's going to be a very long conversation...at least on my end.
