OK, holidays are over- what hearth related gifts did you get or give this year?

I don't think we did this yet this year. So here's a late version.

This year was a pretty hearthy Christmas for me.

I got new fireplace gloves that go up to my elbows, a chimney brush and poles (I had been borrowing a friend's for the past 3 years) and an ash rake. The ash rake I got was off Amazon for like $30-the minuteman ash rake. I love it! Nice long handle. Great for my deep firebox. Way easier than the poker. I also gave a couple Super Cedars away.


Anyone else get or give any hearth related gifts for the holidays?

I did, my brother and sister in-law will be renting a house off of us which has a fireplace so for Christmas I bought them a set of fireplace tools.

I had a shovel and poker already, the new poker is longer and is nicer for a long N/S loading stove
but I dislike the handles

Also got a heavy metal basket - which is nice to hold all the fire starting splits and newspaper that only gets used in shoulder season.
I was happy with the milk crates I use.
An upgrade I didn't need but is nice none the less.

Got an 8 lb truper. I wish I wasn't so out of shape so I could swing it a little better. Also got a fire place friend foot operated splitter. That actually works pretty slick.

I gave my brother a tole (tin) ware match holder for long fireplace matches, plus a few boxes of them to fill it with. He lives in a 120 year old house in a small village, with a gorgeous granite hearth stone, under which sits a Jotul, big and black. It fit right in.

I built a small fire around 12:00 hoping that the house wouldn't be too hot for the guest to arrive at 2:00. It wasn't too bad. It was a little toasty, but better than being cold. I'm always afraid I'm going to cook people out of the living room, but it worked out well. We had like 20 people at my house. My house is kinda small so feeling crammed and hot I figured is a bad combination. We had a lot of great food, some good spirits, wine and beer, and even baby Jesus showed up.

But, I can say after using both the extractor and scoop since the holidays, I'm pretty impressed. I bought a set for my mom who still tends a fire at her old age. She is a clean freak. Growing up in her house was kinda like living in a museum - everything had to be just so. She has been using both items for about a week and she loves how clean tending to her stove is now.

They are made well. I suspect that I'll have mine for quite a few years.

Oh yeah, I gave my father in law the fireplace gloves I got for free for placing a large order of Super Cedars. He has an old VC coal stove. He burns wood in it in the shoulder seasons. *Thanks to Tom from Super Cedars for posting the promo on the forum.

I finally went out and bought a firewood log carrier from an un-named online retailer. This is made of firehose and that helps. I can't believe it took me this long to find a decent log carrier that will last for years to come.

I found a Fiskars hatchet under the tree with my name on it - I'm pretty happy with that one although I don't really make much kindling anymore now that I've discovered the magic of really dry wood and 1/4 super cedar. Still I'm sure it will come in handy.

I bought one of those for my nephew this year. He's been talking about getting into camping so I figured a good hatchet is a great tool for upstate NY camping.

I got a log carrier on line from a leather shop up in brown county, Indiana. It was just what I wanted. 20x32 in. with long leather straps. My last one, after 25 years, the leather straps are about to break.
