Have you tried any Home Depots near you? Saw one of these for $625 a couple months ago.

Including a blower kit & shipping? Dunno, I think the deal Mike got looks OK. (and I'm really glad he's letting someone else do the engineering on a solid-fuel burning appliance to be fired up inside his home...and yes, even though nobody asked, I am a Mechanical Engineer). Good deal, Mike...now see if you can keep yourself from drilling holes in it or something. %-P Rick

I have spent 2mo looking at every big box vendor to avoid the shipping, Home Depot, Lows, Ace hardware you name it. They just dont have any.
Dont forget that if I buy it in this state, I pay 11% tax...

Ouch on the 11% tax. Normally that's considered stupid tax, looks like unlucky tax in your case. But yes, it seem Englander stoves has been including the blowers with all new stoves shipped out - not sure if that applies to their no-names or not.
Also, I believe that HD (As much as I hate the store) includes shipping free w/ their big online orders.

Nice deal.
Gotta pull the trigger at some point. I'm guilty of "over research" many times.
Don't over research your wood, burn dry stuff. ;)
Got dry wood ready ??
Install pictures coming soon , Right?? :)

OK. I'll light the fuse on the next round. What is the chimney setup gonna be?

A liner made out of number 10 soup cans..

Joking.

Lets hope they actually have it in stock and it gets here before June.

Sheesh you guys are a pain in the a$$....

MikeThePIpe! You just showed me everything I need to know about the kind of guy you are. Takes a real genuine person to come right back in here and post up that you took some advice and bought a decent stove.

Keep us updated on the install, with pics :)

We like pics!

And what will the hearth be?

Kudos to Mike for stepping it up like he did. Lets help him as much as possible keeping in consideration the budget he has. Surely he can do it himself. I did my Model 21 with liner, new door gasket, blower shroud and blower, cement, silicone, and travel expenses for maybe 1000 dollars, but no more. If I can do it, Mike can do it. Doing my own install saved me a lot of money and didnt take an hour with no help, not considering cleaning the firebrick in the fireplace and cutting my damper out with a side grinder (that was NOT a fun job btw).

Congrats Mike , Nice selection, Keep us informed how it all goes.

+1 on being a good listener and having enough sense to not bother reinventing the wheel when you can have one delivered for $800. :cheese: At best, you could've bought an old stove and retrofitted it with a baffle and air intake system to achieve secondary burn. You might have gotten it to "work," but it would've probably been a real kludge compared to a new stove designed for secondary combustion, and your total investment would've likely exceeded $800. So, smart choice. Well done. Now, about that chimney. . .yeah. . .that's probably gonna be another $300 or so for 20-25' of 6" stainless flex pipe to run up your masonry chimney. That's a guess at your best option. We need details on your existing chimney. . .

Hey, you're easy. These guys have been working me over for two years now about my old stove and I still haven't budged. I am a stubborn SOB, but maybe I'll come around with the next stove. I won't credit them, though, I'll act like it was all my idea. ;-P

Good luck with it, Mike. Now you can stay warm while you invent the next great wood heater.

Overstock has sold a many members here stoves. I havent heard any negative things about the process. And englanders customer service is noted.

Now wait till you develop the wood gathering addiction. Theres a forum for that too.

Good luck.

Yer gonna love that 13, Mike!

BK, don't you know you'll burn half the wood and your house will be warmer? Dang, you are a slow learner!

Mike, we poke fun a lot, but the 13NC is a good stove. It will do the job for you. I'm curious about why the switch from an insert to a freestanding stove?

Our main concern going forward is seeing that you have a safe installation so that you enjoy it for years to come. Download the manual for the stove from Englander's website. Pay close attention to the clearances, the flue setup and the hearth requirements. Also, bring us up to speed on what your plan it. When we left off, you were talking fireplace insert, not a freestanding stove. Installing a freestanding stove has additional complications. None that can't be addressed, but also none that can be ignored.

Well, ya know, I don't need it any warmer, but if I could get by on 2 1/2 cord my 60 year old bones would feel 30 again. ;-)

BTW how's that 30 treatin' ya?

Best decision I've made in a while to get that thing. It's definitely keeping us warmer so far this season.
