After setting in my basement for 5 years, I was about to put them out on the curb for the trash man, but began wondering if there might be a better way to dispose of, or recycle, them.

I doubt those local charity truck pick-ups are interested (it's dirty). Free-cycle seems like a hassle. I'd throw it into the recycle bin, but it won't fit and it has fiberglass on it, which may not be recyclable (it's not on the recycle list).

Any ideas?

Had a set of old doors off some kind of heatilator or something that was in the house when we bought it. Long since decommissioned and bricked up tight to make room for the hearth for the woodstove. The doors that came off the old thing were in four panels. I ripped 'em apart, recycled the metal at the landfill recycle facility, and I've still got the four glass panes stashed someplace...dunno what for (or if ever) I'll use 'em. They'll prob'ly still be here when this whole place is my daughter's problem, just like my dad did to me. :zip: Rick

On the last house I gave my old doors to someone on the block. My thinking was that the builder put in a lot of the same units and someone could use spare parts. I bet you could get rid of it on Craig's List.

When I got into this last spring, I had a "virtual" yard sale on Craigslist of surplus items that were taking up space in my garage and basement. Sold a spare lawnmower, a/c unit, and among other things a set of fireplace doors. Got $50 bucks for the doors, which were in good shape. They go for at least a couple hundred new. Better yet, the whole take from selling these items got me about $300 bucks with which I purchased two cords of oak! So...clean em up and sell em!
