Got a fill up yesterday 3.59 A gallon what a rip off. The Govt. better step in and do something or a lot of good tax paying people are going to go cold this winter. I guess at these prices it wont take me long to recoupe my investment on my stove.

I definately felt like I was getting hosed. The Company is Petro oil a big outfit. I have a contract with them so I really cant go out into the spec market. What I can do is turn down the thermostat down and burn baby burn. Yup there is profit in kaos and thats whats happening. spoke to a coworker who deals with a big company called sweezy fuel she paid $355.9 yesterday
Ought to rename them Sleazzy Fuel.....well, actually it might be that these companies made some bad bets in an attempt to assure supply. The end user then foots the bill. That is the "market" and the only way to avoid it is to either lock in, buy some contracts yourself (to offset the possible costs), or get a bigger oil tank and buy when the price is right.

Sickening. Only way I can describe it. Part of me wants to laugh since I buy maybe 10 dollars of gas a week, no fuel oil, maybe 30 dollars worth of propane every 6 months, the other part gets good and angry when I think of all the people who have no choice but to use oil or gas and have to decide between heat, medicine, or food. What grates me the worst is that it's all entirely artificial, and any price-raising chaos is deliberately prolonged to enrich a few individuals, previously mentioned, and their pals. In any civilized country they'd be wind ballast on a lampost. But we're supposed to bow down because they're "helping" by doling out a few dollars on TV, while so many are probably already cold and living on cat food.

Nobody buys from Petro, they are way to expensive, always have, always will be. I am on the end of the island, and I paid 2.88/gallon for 800 gallons delivered on the third. I think you should shop around a bit.

Agreed, Craig. But not everyone has the capability or opportunity to burn renewable fuels, especially the elderly. That's what gets me cranked. But I guess this country has always run on rails greased by the defenseless, driven by the few and pushed by their cheerleaders.

I think these prices are making people suffer, and no doubt that the person who has less (middle class and below) suffers VASTLY more.
There are lots of initiatives like the Kennedy one, and many would meet the criteria of those who don't like Chavez, etc......so folks who are really having a hard time should follow some of the links from that site to other efforts...I think citizens is just in Ma.

I guess we each react by either helping or not helping - in other words, you can donate to efforts, help your neighbor with some firewood or whatever else. That way you save on therapy bills.

I agree I feel badly for the people who have to make the choice between heat, food and Medicine. I work two jobs and my wife works. Thankfully I can afford to pay it, Ill just have to cut back elsewhere(like savings or college funds
!!). Still the elderly, the working poor are getting sc#@#ed. My friend thinks im crazy for becoming a wood burner, stating all the work and mess that go into it. Im actually enjoying the experience and my house is warmer then when I heated with just oil alone.

What amazes me is that I know 90+ year-old people who still burn wood and/or coal for at least part of their heat, but I hear 30-year-olds complaining that it's "too much work". Guess it's a tradeoff that everyone has to find their comfort zone in, either pay for the heat, or work for it. Our men's group at church cuts wood every summer for those who can't do it themselves. We have a few farms to cut on, a few tractors, splitters, etc. Everyone has a fun time, we get a bunch of wood cut, split, and stacked at the person's house- works out for everybody. Pick a nice cool Saturday morning and go. More important is making sure those peoples' chimneys are clean and safe, and that they have smoke detectors, at least one CO detector, and a fire extinguisher.
The worst part is that the individual fuel dealers are making no more, or even less money than when oil was cheap. And our worthless dollar doesn't go far anymore, no matter whose wallet it's in.

Worldwide oil production has not increased since late '05 and the second largest oilfield is in a steep major decline. Also major projects like Kashagan and Khurais which should offer some major relief in supply have seen delays. Speculators finally know this and you are paying the price for it.
Another reason why you are paying that high price is our dollar devalued by 50% against the euro during his administration.

That's more than the retail price of diesel oil, which is the same stuff with the road taxes added.
Raises the question in my mind: Who makes up the difference between the lock-in price and the rising cost of oil on the international market? I guess the people like you who didn't jump on board.
