Hello all I had some bad outgassing happening today. At one point I had to keep closing and just craking the air to control it. My question is when it lights off it makes a big poof noise like it blowing the flames up the flue or like it's going to blow the door open. What causes this and how do i fix it.

Closing the air down too far too fast...give it more air, let the fire establish/stabilize, and then bring it back down slowly
