Pe summit Insert model , late 2014/15

Hello. I'm in the process of getting a summit insert. And I can get a new one or a new older model. The new model has a design change, and the airflow slit is by the upper part of the door, as opposed to the older one which has a slit by the top hot plate.

Does anyone know if this is the only change of the unit, or is the new design have better efficiency or other improvements etc ?

Not really sure what if I should be worried or not.

The change is noticeable on the pe web site.

How old is the older unit? The newer model has a nice improvement with the EBT that should extend the burn time. That would make me consider getting the newest version.

I just purchased and installed a PE Summit insert last weekend - you're going to love it The older model is Series B, the newest is Series C. I was pleased to get the C as I liked the cleaner look of the surround being solid and the fans venting above the door but more importantly the C has reduced clearances for the mantle which was crucial for my install. Not sure what changed with the EBT but I'm sure Green will elaborate - he's the expert around here.

Here is a nice explanation of the EBT and the change from the A to the B model. I don't think there were any changes in the EBT from model B to C. However, they changed the body slightly between those versions as Sean explained.

I think the B and C have the EBT change. The Summit A EBT was thermostatic and controlled boost air. The new EBT is barometric and controls secondary air only.

I have the A & B series, the B & C are same EBT I believe.
Look at both and choose your preference. The air on the B comes out above the top plate, the C model has air coming out under the top plate.

Thanks for the response. hogz, thank you as well, I have spent countless hours reading allot about of your post about the summit.

Do you guys think the air coming closer to the door would increase smoke spillage, also does the air blow straight out on the C compared to the B . I'm assuming the B Series has straight out air flow looking at the photo.

I can save 400 bucks buying a floor model.
Just concerned that I may miss out on something the new design has, being such an expensive investment and regret it when I have it installed.

The C model directs the blower air under the top plate and if the top plate is same as the B model, the lip on front will actually force the hot air downward.
Not a bad thing. And eventually the heated air will rise anyway. The B model blows the heated air straight out over top of the top plate. A small amount may actually go under the top plate also, as it seems slightly raised as opposed to the A model, which was almost flat against the top of the firebox.
When reloading, just turn the fan down to low or off. I turn mine to low and have no issues.
You should not get much smoke spillage. Here and there it does happen, but not like it smokes the house out.
I think the only real difference between the B & C is the side/front corner grilles. If I remember correctly they were changed from B to C models.
I don't think you will regret getting either one. Very small changes between the two, opposed to the changes between the A & B.
The firebox, EBT & Baffle are the same on the B & C as far as I know.

Hog is exactly right, the air comes out from under the top plate, hits that lip at the front edge and gets directed down in front of the glass. I can't speak for the B setup but that air coming past the door on mine is unbelievable hot! It is directed down at such an angle that I am able to stack my next load of wood on the hearth in front of the stove and the hot air hits it and dries it out. Some of my wood is reading a bit over 20% and with the milder temps I've been building smaller fires so drying it for a bit before it goes in has helped.

I didn't come across any other differences in my research between B & C except the clearance to the mantle which I mentioned and the trim differences.

I would push the dealer for more than $400 off a floor model if you go that route, $1000 would be what I would gun for and maybe settle at $700-$800. Especially if it has been burned in.

If it has been burned in, yes. Otherwise, it never hurts to try but at this time of the year I doubt the dealer has trouble selling the stove. Late winter/spring things may look different.

No this unit is a display unit- New never used floor model. Just not sure if i should go with this one or the C series.

One thing i do notice is the vent. It looks like the left is the air intake. On the B looks like it has 2 intakes, am i seeing this right ?

The air is definitely directed downwards on the C, comes from directly over the door and travels down in front and will hit the edge of my hearth at 16" and the floor beyond that.

Yes the B model will most likely send the heated air a bit more to the middle of the room, and may a little further, but the heated air is going to rise no matter where it blows out at.
You ain't going to get $1,000.00 off the stove floor model. Never happen, period. That is damn near 1/3 the cost of the stove, slightly less.
If you hold out for that kind of discount, you ain't going to have a stove. What they offer, is all they are going to offer.
Especially this time of year,.

I found out the floor model was built in 2011. I think that is a long time to just be sitting. Then again is that really a big deal?
