So I had to replace the door gasket yesterday as it had fallen out (new in fall 2010). Tom hooked me up and had my gasket kit to me in one day (thanks Tom). Went to install it and used WAY too much red devil. Looked like a river runs through it. Having never done this before I took the statement "use a liberal amount" too heart. So when I place the door pack on, I had drips every where. No big deal, pop the door back off and clean it all up and removed the excess cement. Put the door back on and was good to go. I let it sit about 24 hours and then fired the stove up, gasket worked like a champ. Went to reload the stove before heading to bed and the door was super tight. Got it to open and as I did so, I noticed the glass had fractured. Glad I saw it before I fired it back up. The crack is about 3 inches long. Guess I'm lucky it didn't shatter. I'm guessing that as the stove expanded from the heat, the door tweaked a bit and broke the glass. Now for the questions, when I got to replace the glass, do I have to also replace the door gasket? I don't think I'll have to but the gasket covers some of the screws. I really don't want to have to replace the gasket if i can help it since they are not all that cheap with the shipping and cement and all. not to mention the amount of cement I used will take for ever to remove. Any idea what a new piece of glass runs? The door was never really all that tight from the day I got it. I think I'll need to adjust the door a bit to make is snug but not tight. Love the stove, just hate having to fix it again so soon.
