Pellet Stove - Cleaning & blasting that nasty rusty fire box and super rusty baffle panels!

Hello

This Quadrafire CB1200 has see alot of use in a basement that may have had some dampness. Dampness is the Pellet stove's # 1 adversary!

Even though it works fine, looks like time for a little touch up?

I brought out the Big Gun by using a 40 lb Abrasion blaster connected to a 210 PSI DeWalt compressor using Black Diamond - ultra fine (Coal Slag) but that is not all that is needed to perk this boy up?
Getting and setting up a good blaster is not easy, here was my struggle.

Ultra fine Black diamond is a little messy but works good at $8 per bag.
Anyone else do blasting with Aluminum Oxide? That is rich stuff @ $50 per bag!

Thanks Stovelark, It should go another 7 years at least! LOL. I also installed a new High current, more torque and better ball bearing open frame exhaust blower "Low Drafter" so it will burn like a house on fire!

Hi Don, we sell a lot of these workhorses. I am an Enviro fan, but I do like this Quad espec since its designed after the Whitfield Advantage 2t, like my own EF3 is ... take care.

My helper and I spent approx 4 hours preping and painting the outside. That includes painting the interior of the panels, and back panels and inside also including the door and installing new rope gasket and painting the hopper. Before that I spent about 4 hours blasting and painting the firebox then maybe a couple hours replacing the broken t-stat terminal block and re-installing the fire pot with new gasket and replacing the broken thermocouple hold down clip and replacing the exhaust blower. Therefore approx 12 hours. I used about 2 cans of paint. This stove has a lot of areas to paint!
I even painted the exhaust housing when the blower was out because it was peeling and rusty. I did order the optional fire brick and OAK collar so it will look better than new and heat more efficiently with an OAK!
As you can see it needed work but it is worth the effort because the stove is a tank and will keep running for many more years!

Pricing varies with how much it costs and demographics and time of year and what parts go into it, but the upgraded exhaust blower reduces cleaning even more! I cleaned my Santa Fe maybe 3 times the whole season but I did not run it at night!

a wire wheel or a nylon paint stripper on a 7" grinder will obtain the same results. Much cheaper but also much more elbow grease.

That looks like a blower for a Harman with the pigtail cord.

Yes and you cannot do everything with the blaster, just another tool to maybe help save some time.
