pitched ceiling support options

hi

i have a low pitch ceiling with no attic and i plan to install the wood stove with a double wall insulated 6" pipe straight up to the ceiling/roof.

i did a bit research on ceiling support for my need and i mostly see a black square support box that mate the 6" to the 8" pipe, and part of the black support box will be visible inside the house.

my goal is to only have the 6" pipe and a flat trim plate attached to the ceiling visible inside the house. is it possible to accomplish that?

would this kit give me what i need?

If you have ANY pitch to your ceiling, I'm pretty sure you're gonna see some of the support box. Most are specified to extend into the room a small distance (ICC is 3" Minimum), because there is still heat coming off the sides of the connector pipe & when it is TOO close to the ceiling, this can be a fire hazard...

right. so it's a matter of finding the support box that is round in shape instead of square in shape then. thanks.

Daksy, the kit has the roof support brace. Looks ok to me, but perhaps I'm missing something. Do you see an issue with that? An alternative would be to install a cathedral ceiling support box.

Actually I do, BG. The instructions specifically state to install the support to the UNDERSIDE of the framing, not the top. There doesn't seem to be any way to cosmetically disguise the Class A. Nobody wants stainless hanging out of the ceiling. Some manufacturers offer round support boxes. I think that's the look that the OP is going for. Either way, the support box extends below the finished ceiling...

Agreed that a cathedral support box is a cleaner look, though I have seen an install here that used this method and had black class A hanging down in the interior. But now I'm confused. I thought the support must be done on the top side of the roof, not the underside. It is much stronger on the top side. This is how it's shown in Selkirk's catalog.

You caught me BG, The support TRIM piece mounts below the finished ceiling...(Getting Dyslexic in my dotage!)... The wings do indeed sit on the roof deck or the framing members. I think their intention for the trim piece note is to keep folks from installing it at rougn framing & having the "rockers" come in & cover it with the drywall...Sorry for the confusion...

I havnt done it yet, but i have black exhaust pipe wrap which ill be wrapping my 1" section of ss class A just below my square support box. Should hide the silver well! I do agree the round does look better, but supervent only made it square so i just went with that and it doesnt bother me!
I think with your pitch you can go down to 1" of the box sticking through on the lower side" then 1" of the class A

I have never installed one of these, thus all the questions. I agree the big interior trim is so that 2" clearance to all combustibles including drywall are honored.

just talked to the installers and they said the would do the same thing as what begreen quoted above:

roof support with the shinny class A (which they would paint in black) sticking down to the interior ceiling with a black trim plate, then adapter, then double wall stove pipe, then stove adapter, then stove

i asked if i needed a ceiling support box and they said i won't need it, plus i won't have room for it since there is no attic.

For the ceiling support box you only stick through what is needed and cut or fold over the rest on the sheathing side. Do they even make a trim plate for the class A? I like a support box better! Little extra protection going through the roof too.

A standard ceiling support box won't work, but a cathedral ceiling support box could work if you like that look better.
