Feeling the Heat
Jul 23, 2015

Somewhere near nowhere
The stove is ready to go. Added some copper to shield the piano and a small shield to protect the wood surround in front of the stove. Supposed to see the 40 degrees Friday night. I smell a break in fire.

Man I butchered those screw placements on front heat shields.

You may be the only one that notices. Overall it looks nice and neat. Though the cage makes the stove look like its in a museum.

Yea I built the cage a long time ago and didn't want to just through it out. It is a pain to step over.

So what's the fence for? Got little kids?
My kids grew up with a stove dead centered in the house, they never got burned. Not once! No means no, and they pick up on that very quick.

My 3 y/o daughter sure learned that. Only had to tell her once and she stays a good distance away. My son on the other hand just turned one and he might be a little more difficult. He's into trouble all the time and won't listen to anything we say...think he might be a lot like his dad.

Yea my kids sure don't listen too good especially the 5 year old he used to go for the ashes in the old jotul. I think he even touched the hot stove once now he knows better. some people have to find out for themselves.

You guys think I should take off the surround maybe leave the one wall with the copper up?

Your call. Sooner or later that will happen. It would look better and be much less of a pain in the butt without it.

Any way to center it to the back? Pic a little too dark for me to see. Nice stove

You will love the Progress Hybrid! It is an amazing stove. A word of advice.....move the piano!! I have a grand piano and I would never put it anywhere near the Progress Hybrid. The heat from the Progress Hybrid has caused some of the wood on our large dining room table to separate due to the temperature and dryness. You will most definitely damage your piano with it that close to the PH.

Its offset for two reasons. One the loading door is on the right side and I took out a glass panel from the fireplace doors and put in the metal sheet that the stove pipe runs through. It just happened that the liner lined up with the placement of the stove. The flue wasn't centered to the doors of the fireplace.

Thanks for the tip about the piano, I moved it to the far side of the room, away from the stove.
Glad you made that decision! You may find that it needs to find a "new room" once you get into the middle of winter.

A humidifier in the room should help keep the wood stable.

new room? The room is pretty big

Did you order it with NO ASHPAN !!!!!!?!?

The Ashpan is one of the best things ever invented for a woodstove, and WS gets it right! It will cut down on ash in the room and help protect that Piano!

I have a few acoustic guitars in the stove room. In the winter I have to move them upstairs. They don't stay in tune and the neck begins to bend. I can only imagine what the dry heat will do to a piano.

Yep.....

The piano is a good 15 feet from the stove and I will be keeping the room humidified. The computer that now resides where the piano was I hope it melts pos hp.

I removed the wood surround. Left up the shield and placed large humidifier in the room. The break in fires were setting off the smoke detector, the progress is a stinky stove.[Hearth.com] Progress ready to fire

Now that the piano is gone, are you going to remove the copper shield? I would want to look at that stove, and feel the heat as much as possible.

That is an attractive stove.
