I replaced my old wood furnace (70's Energy King) with a PSG Max Caddy this past December. I operate it as a wood burning furnace only in my 2500+ sq. foot log home that was built in the early 1900's with plenty of windows. I live in the Upper Peninsula of MI where we have experienced an extremely cold winter.
This furnace is a pleasure to own and operate and has provided plenty of heat with long burn times. I burn seasoned hard maple, yellow birch and red oak. I haven't had to start a fire in almost two months - every morning I have a nice bed of coals to work with. I use it with a programmable thermostat and keep the house at about 68-70 deg F during the day and 62 at night.
I was also considering a highly regarded competing brand built in the USA, but the lack of a dealer network and it's size/configuration options just didn't work for my application. I highly recommend this product as a well designed, efficient wood burning appliance especially if you have a forced air heating system.
