I have a Supervent 6" Wall Thimble to install. Can somebody explain to me the purpose / function of framing in the wall thimble. From what I have read, I can't just anchor the thimble to the drywall. Thanks.

Figured as much. Curious why though if the screw holes in the exterior plate span the stud width. I guess they dont always align perfectly?
