Hey folks - has anyone ever disassembled the primary air control on a Quad Explorer 2 (or comparable Quad)? I'm wondering if the control lever has become disconnected from the vent/flap/etc. as when there is no longer a discernable difference in the speed of combustion when burning. I used to notice a discernable difference in the speed of flame movement when going from fully open to fully closed and this past week no longer see this. The diagram in the manual shows the part, but not really the internals. Thanks for any input!

If it's like the ACC then it is a basic timer controled air valve. It may be sticking.

Hi begreen - the stove does have the ACC system in addition to the primary control. The ACC is on the right hand side of the stove and does operate via a spring-loaded timer. Truth be told, I don't use that thing at all - either leave it in the wide open position when starting or close off manually when stove is going well. My issue is with the primary oxygen control which is the left/right lever on the very front of the stove. I'll take the ash drawer out today and poke around - never use the ash drawer (have had stove for ~8 years ...) so we'll see what's under there.

Thanks very much for your reply.

Best Regards,

Tim

One thing to check is to make sure that the ash trap door is sealing tightly. Sometimes an errant coal will get stuck there.
