was gifted a 14" Homelite 3514c chainsaw. got it up and running. needs to do a bit more of a tune up, but it has a 3/8" low profile chain.

my question is, can i switch to chain to a 14" .325" bar.

i have a ms251 and all my sharpening stuff is for that gear.

specs on new homelite saw.

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Engine:42cc
  • Powerhead Weight:9.8 lbs.
  • Guide Bar:14 in.
  • Chain:3/8in. Low Profile

To switch chains you will have to change the drive sprocket and the bar if it has a sprocket nose.

I think you would need to change the bar regardless as the skag width is not the same between a 3/8 and 325 chains.....

RULE: drive sprocket pitch, chain pitch, and bar tip sprocket pitch ALL MUST MATCH.

Also note that 3/8LP pitch is not the same as (not compatible with) 3/8 pitch.

It can be you can get different gauge chains in any drive.
