I live in a 30 year old 20 by 50 one story house in Nova Scotia Canada. My basement consists of a 4 foot concrete wall and a 4 foot knee wall. Only the basement knee wall is insulated by r20.The basement is mostly open.I have r12 in the upper floor walls and r50 in the attic. I have been heating the entire house very well for many years with a Enterprise Fawcett nighthawk wood stove that puts out 60,000 btu .It is installed in the far end of the basement. Average winter temps are from zero to -15 deg c. I want to remove the wood stove in the basement and install a pellet stove. I do not want the pellet stove on the main floor. I have been looking at the cab 50 by Heatilator and the Drolet eco 65 stoves. My question is this......

Are these pellet stoves strictly space heaters?
Can I heat my house with these pellet stoves? Will it be comfortable?

Curious why you want the pellet stove in the basement. It is comfortable heat but I'm sure people with experience will tell you that you'll have a tough time heating the house from the basement. I believe the ideal situation would be to find a place for the pellet stove in your living space and keep your wood stove to have as a backup. I'm sure when Smokey wakes up from his nap he'll chime in ==c
