I have a 10" raised hearth and wanting to install an insert . Should I be able to see masonry from the basement ? What if the hearth is sitting in the wood floor ?

Is this a zero clearance fireplace or a masonry fireplace?

Do you currently have a zero clearance fireplace or is it a masonry fireplace?

If it's masonry then you should be able to see masonry or cement under the hearth in the basement.

What are the insert plans? Feel free to post some pictures to help us see what you are seeing.

The plan was to install a drolet 1800i , but the fireplace tapers in to much in the back . Also insulated liner and block-off plate ( after reading on here I found out those are a must ) About this time last year you suggested the heatilator eco-win insert , looks like it will fit no problem. Also planning to upgrade my smoke dragon englander add-on furnace. I've been fixing mother in laws house to sell it , so haven't had time to get started on these projects
