Refacing brick hearth for a woodstove

I want to reface a brick hearth for my Fisher Mama bear. I need advice on what to use to level the hearth surface prior to refacing it with stone. Also, any advice on what to use to reface it would be great ! Thanks.

You want a self leveling compound sold at any hardware or lumber store. It may take 2 or 3 applications, depending on how “out of level” it is
