We put in a new 25-pdv earlier this winter during a cold snap. It was -20 below midday when we installed it. That's not national news around here. Thanks to the mountains it is pretty normal to have stretches where the highs are well below zero a couple days at a time. The stove was awesome then. We turned it up and down as needed and the house stayed nice and warm. Since then, however, we had an abnormally warm February where our day temps were in the 20s above pretty consistently and it generally stayed above 0 even at night.
Now this thing is cooking us out. Without changing any settings other than the two everyone is supposed to touch, the stove makes the house way too hot at 1 and 1. I realize now we bought too big of a stove, but I also think there are ways to reduce heat from it from reading around. The problem is that even searching the threads on this generally amazingly helpful forum are pretty contradictory. Some people talk about increased heat from C mode, for example, while others talk about increased heat from D mode. All I've learned for sure is that the stove should never be in A or B.
Also, should I play with the bottom settings instead? Or both? I want it to run 24/7 except for when I am giving it a thorough clean, but a lot of days we have to turn it off, wait for the house to get cold, turn it back on, wait for the house to get too hot, turn it off, wait for the house to get cold... etc. Let me know what guys would do. I can't imagine how obnoxious this is going to be in mid April when we start seeing 40s a lot of days.
