We are biting the bullet and upgrading our cracked 1970 Nashua. We will be heating about 1000 SF this year, and then about 1800 SF from thereafter (addition coming soon). We have spent hours researching etc. and we were about to buy a new Englander NC30, but have stumbled across a refurbished VC Resolute. Can anyone offer some comments about how these might perform differently?

Thanks!

For differences it would depend on the model Resolute. Is this pre-EPA or is it a Resolute Acclaim?

If it is an early Resolute, not even close. The original Resolute is a significantly smaller stove. It was a good model but you would need a Vigilant or Defiant to match the full potential of the 30NC. The Resolute is nice sized for 1000 sq ft in MD. That is similar sq ftg to when we had a Resolute in WA. But with the addition you will probably want more horsepower if the intent is heating 24/7 with the stove. If the stove is more of a chill chaser then the Resolute would work. The 30NC will take a bit longer pieces of wood. For looks the Resolute has no contest here. It's a very solid, good-looking, little stove.
