Sandy "damage"

After wind gusts upwards of 60 mph and 5-6 inches of rain Monday, I surveyed the property yesterday. Thankfully no property damage, but several trees on my 7 acres did not survive the storm.


If this pine had fallen the other way, it would've taken out the chicken house!



Here are some oaks that either came down or had the top blown off.



This tree came down across the driveway - had to saw it up just to get out. Had to borrow a neighbor's saw because my saw was in the shop. He had a tree across his driveway too, so I borrowed his saw and cut his tree up for him, then got mine. I know it's not the best picture, and all of the leaves were off the tree, but anyone want to give me an ID for this one?


Finally, the calm after the storm. This was the view from my deck this morning as the sun hit the mountain. Look closely and you can see my woodpile at the bottom. The snow is on top of North Mountain, which is on the VA-WV border. Light wasn't the best on this picture but I wanted to get it before the snow melted.

That was quite a storm. Thank God the chicken house survived! I'm glad you escaped without any property damage!

I'd say maple, a little rotten in the middle, but good wood.

Wow. From other pics I've seen you got off light. Glad no damage.
You'll get good weather for the rest of fall so you can get it cleaned up.

I bet it was nice to see the blue sky, maybe not the snow though

Hope the chickens can relax & start laying again

Yes Dave we are very lucky compared to other people here in the east. Some in VA are still without power, not to mention the devastation in NJ and NY.

I actually liked seeing the snow - I love it and we don't get enough here. I'd like to be somewhere where we get more snow - Alaska maybe?

And the chickens looked pretty freaked out the next day but now they're laying again!

Dennis - got the saw back so tomorrow it's time to get to work. So much wood to clean up around here it's unbelievable. Hoping to cut several loads each weekend until Christmas.

Neighbors have chickens & turkeys. They loose a few young ones to the eagles, but if you want snow & cold,
some live poultry sacrifice may be worth it . LOL
