Saw Stuck in a big log

Was cutting from the bottom up, almost made it.
When the log fell the chain stopped NOW!

Tried to pull but I could see, it ain't gonna budge.
To heavy to move either end. & 20 miles from no-where.

Now is when I'm glad I brought a back up saw.
Not much of a saw but, it did the job. Limed the top & worked back to the stuck saw.
36 year old craftsman saves the day

I've said it before, & I'll say it again, a cheap/old/used/whatever backup saw is worth it's weight in gold. You only lose a couple minutes starting another saw. Nice job Dave. A C

lucky you had the spare saw ..... if people dont have a spare saw its a good idea to carry at least a old second hand bar and chain that suits the saw = in this situation just remove the power head from jambed bar and fit the spare one ..

I won't admit to how many times I've had to break out a plastic wedge to free up a bar! This after breaking a chain adjuster on my dad's old Mac 10-10A because I was tugging too hard trying to free up the bar. I keep several cheap wedges and a limbing hatchet in my chain saw tote bag. Plus the MS260 Pro is always handy as a back up.

I'm looking at getting a Stihl Farm Boss real soon (maybe next weekend) to replace my Craftsman.....Wife wants me to sell it.....that saw is going nowhere......gonna be great as a limbing/back up saw

Once on a cutting trip my son asked "why do you bring the little chainsaw? You never use it!"
This situation. In a jam I left a newer bar and chain wedged in a fell. Been bringing a spare saw ever since.
I did get that bar and chain out two years later, right where I left it.

I almost wish I'd get my saw stuck someday. I have been procrastinating getting a second saw for years now, but I always seem to manage to do without it, and every time I browse the chainsaws in the store and get the urge to buy one a little voice in my head keeps telling me not to waste the money if I don't need to.
What I need to do is get my saw nice and stuck one day so I have some ammunition to use against that little voice in my head.

I did the same thing and love the Farm Boss! I kept the craftsman and after getting my Stihl stuck and having to drive home for my backup I now always take both with me. I really like the idea of an extra bar and chain though too. Im gona have to look into getting another bar for it.

The second bar has saved me a couple of times. I forgot it once but not twice.. Thankfully I was only about a mile from the house.

My farm boss has saved my 441 a few times. After I learned how to used wedges better, knock on wood, havent gotten the saw stuck in a few months

I always take three saws. Only because I like them all, and don't want any to feel left out. It's hard to choose, so I give 'em all a workout.

It is bound to happen to some sooner or later I guess. After 50+ years, it happened to me last winter. I do not have a backup saw. However, a quick trip to the neighbors and borrowing his saw did the trick nicely. He was not there but I knew where the saw was. lol

Has happened to me a few times. I get in a hurry or tired & want to get done.
This one was the 1st tree so no excuses. Though the log was on solid ground but it was a tussock of frozen moss.
No harm done, I just finished cleaning up the limbs, then went to the truck to get the back up saw.

I ALWAYS have at least two saws on every job, sometimes 3 or 4. Just because. I've had all kinds of situations happen to me, and nothing sucks worse thant getting to a job and 5 mins. into it, you have a crisis and NO BACKUP SAW.

Been there, done that, ain't doin' that again!!

Thistle, I see you also have some log tongs. How long have you had them and how well do you like them?

Since April & I like them very much.Much nicer on the back not having to bend over as often when moving lots of smaller rounds.Just grab & go.

its a step towards a simple solution , also a way around it for those who cant afford a second saw , and a space and wheight saver for those who go out cutting on there atvs , cheers

Been thinking about a smaller bar, be a real good thing to have on the ATV.
