Farmer wanting his pasture cleared out. Had a ad on Craigslist. Guess no one wanted it cause I'm the only one cutting on it.

Cmon, you're making this up, right? I've been trying to score Hedge for years and all I've got to show for it is about 1/4 or 1/3 cord (not sure, never split it yet.) There always seems to be someone else that wants it, and knows the guy. At least I have enough to be able to one day say I've burned it.
Scooter, where in IN are you (don't tell me if you're real close, so I won't be tempted to try to horn in on your action.)

Southern part. Got the wood in Kentucky. Only about a 30 min drive from me. The trees I'm cutting on are massive. The big pieces in the pics are limbs.

Kudos! This is my first run in with osage too. Took down a dead one and hoping it will be ready to burn this winter. That is the deep orange wood in one of the pictures. Looks like mullberry but its hedge.

Wow, jackpot! If you get the whole tree, it's gotta be over a cord, I'd think. Sounds like the two big Hedge behind my MIL's house. A guy is building a house on the lot, and he's giving the wood to a friend of his whose Boy Scout troop sells firewood. One of the two Hedge is still standing, he may take it out later. He and the Boy Scout guy were there cutting one day so I went over. The guy didn't know what he was doing with a saw; Me and the Scoutmaster were just rolling our eyes. I said a couple things to the guy like "It might be safer to stand on the ground while limbing, instead of climbing around in the branches." I don't think he took too kindly to my advice, so I'm not holding my breath on getting any wood over there. I told the Scoutmaster that I stack Oak for a couple years to dry before I burn it. He didn't say much...I think they are gonna sell live-cut Oak this fall.

Well will be like the forth of July if they burn that wet hedge in a burn pit! Hahaha Yeah you sould be on the ground cause those branches off the limbs go every which way and full of thorns. Got one slammed through my glove under my finger nail. My neighbor saw what I was getting and brought me a beer(never did that before now) and said he knew a guy that might want a couple loads and I could use his log splitter. Doesn't sound like a good pay off to me. My truck my saw my gas and me cutting everything! I told him I would just split it by hand and that I liked the workout. Hahaha! Never fails.

I think you're being conservative with only a "ton"... Better get some pine split so you'll be able to start a fire before you add that stuff. I'm not sure i ever want to try to start a fire from scratch with only hedge. Just make sure you can look in all 360 degrees at the same time over 3-4' when you open the stove door!

Yeah should have been "tons" for sure! Have some pine and maple for starter with a mix of oak black walnut and hickory. Think it will go good with my maple. Help boost my BTU. Yeah gotta watch the sparks. I put a few splits in my fire pit and got a few shots to the leg. Storing it far away from anyone with a wood stove, boiler, etc. hahaha!!

Great stuff but it's a three year drying process with Osage. I've never been able to get it to burn purely by itself.
It sure throws off heat though.

Cut down a dead one with no bark. splits feel and sound like concrete blocks. Wood looks petrified so I'm hoping that will be good to go by Jan/Feb.

We burn hedge all winter , every winter in SW Ohio. We are blessed to have a few farms that still have hedge fence rows. Probably have over 50 acres of hedge trees. Most are still growing while there are a lot they have been down for years. The stuff won't rot lol .We burn roughly 6-7 cord a year of almost all hedge. With some oak and ash mixed in. We burn it by itself with no problems at all in a Brunco 190. It spoils a person on the heat output

Yep only 10 splits from 4 truck loads. Yeah the hedge gonna be for next year. Just got 3 truck loads of white oak and hickory today. Lot of storms lately taken everything down.

Who knows this might be the only time I get this wood. That's why I'm tryin to get as much as I can. Been takin friends out to help cut and getting extra trucks to haul back as much as I can.

First bin is 8x4x6 and I'm still stacking on it. Second bin is 6x4x6 and should fill that. Not done splitting it all yet. All hedge in those bins
