Feeling the Heat

We finally bought a house, and I plan to use our P68 in the living room to heat the kitchen and send a bunch of heat upstairs. I've had a basement install for the past 6 seasons, so I'm aware of what it takes.

We have a back room that is isolated from the rest of the house, but has a chimney in it. I'm looking for a small pellet stove with auto light function, so we can easily turn it on while we're using the room, and turn it off when we're not. The room is approximately 500 sq ft. I'm looking for used, because I can't afford a new stove.

I'm looking on Craigslist, and Marketplace, but all these brands are foreign to me. Quadrafire, King, Pelpro, Englander??? I don't know what they are or what they can do.

Any ideas?

If it were me, I would be looking for an Enviro P3 or a mini both auto light
easy to maintain and only 30,000 BTU, or a Harman P43, a little bigger and
up to 45,000 BTU. Finding a used one may not be easy

Harman and Enviro are the best. After that it probably depends on the condition and price. There are some really inexpensive brands out there for sure. I have heard of those you listed except maybe King. If you make a list of the best ones you can find we can comment on them.

You also could get a new one with a warranty and pay less by getting a brand other than Harman/Enviro

That's a good idea.

This one has my attention right now: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...ckson-pellet-stove-800-to-1-200-sq-ft-2104072 It would be hard to find a working used better stove for this price.

The reviews are mostly positive. I know it's not a Harman, but I don't want to pay Harman prices for a second stove that will heat a 400 sq foot room.

It would not be a big investment to get it. It is low BTU, and low hopper size but that might not be an issue. Even you you could find a used Harman or Enviro in good shape it could be twice as much. You would basically pay extra to get a warranty. You could probably find an off brand small one like that used, but you don't know what could be wrong with it and how they took care of it. Since you already know about pellet stoves, I'm sure you would rather pay twice as much and get a new one.

The only thing that worries me is the hopper size
18 lbs less than half a 40 lb bag, you may be forever filling it
But it is a nice-looking stove, and you can not beat the price.
What about parts and service?

For occasional, light-duty use, going with an off brand might be your best bet. In such a scenario you aren't really worried about hopper size or ash pan size.

But, if you plan keeping that room heated full time, I'm not sure I would trust that it will last more than a couple of years (just my thoughts, I have no experience with it). And as @johneh stated, that hopper size is pretty small.

I read a bunch of reviews. Some say the customer service is terrible, others say it's great. I noticed on each of the poor reviews, the company commented requesting the person call their 1-800 number to talk about it. So I'm not sure what to think about that?

The hopper size is a drawback, but from searching around, the only way to get a bigger hopper size is to get a bigger (and more expensive) stove. I don't want a 2200 sq ft stove in my 400 sq. foot room.

Edit: There's a different version of this stove model that has a 30 lb hopper. It's $300 more. I guess that might be worth the extra money to double the pellet capacity (still not a whole bag...)
