Smoke from adapter, how to seal?

Smoke smell

I have a harman p43. We've had this stove for 3 years. Before that, we had a saint croix afton bay for probably twelve years. When we had the harmon put in, they just used the same piping from our previous pellet stove... when we first had it installed, I could smell smoke so they came out and siliconed the joints. Everything seemed fine, but now this year i'm smelling smoke again.. I did aluminum taped up the joints and just did the flashlight test and noticed some smoke near the the adapter ( that's what it's called like, right where it comes out of the stove) .. how do I silicone that to stop the leak??? I know to get the red rtv silicone do I just run it around?The whole outside of where the pipe meets the stove?

That is pretty much what you do. Some people would take it
Apart, clean all the old sealant off, and reseal it. I guess it depends
on how handy you are and how much work you are willing to do.
In any case, clean off as much of the old sealant as you can and
Spread new RTV around the joint, let it cure for up to 24 hours

I chased smoke for a long time, and found out the "professionals" who originally installed my stove used screws that were too long, which punctured the inner liner of my vent pipe. If that has happened, you'll have to goop up every connection and there will never seem to be an end to it. I ended up replacing all of the pipe.

My appliance adapter is held on with screws, so in addition to gooping the pipe itself, I put goop on the screws, because smoke will leak out around the screw heads.

Just keep in mind on some stoves sometimes the end of the adapter is inside the back panel not right where the pipe meets the stove. I believe on the P43 the top of the adapter is flush with the bottom of the hopper so it is hard to get a bead of silicone in there without removal.

Aluminum tape is hard to use for sealing up those last little leaks. Any crease will allow smoke out. I use high temp silicone tape to seal connection points. It will easily conform to the shape and the stretchiness helps to keep from getting any pesky little gaps. It is also easy to remove if you need to remove if you should need to.

I'm going to use the silicone or the silicone tape to try the pipe first. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to call someone I am not handy enough to take this thing apart.I'm just a 57 year old woman... I can do the cleaning myself.I can do the pellets myself, but taking the stove apart is not something I can do...

This did the trick for me for sealing up leaky joints, going on 2 years now and still no leaks. It is in the plumbing section at Lowes.
