We have a Black Bart Model 3200 Freestanding Heating System. The unit works super but when we turn on the fan we get excessive smoke.

When you say smoke - do you mean from the stack or into the living area?
Check for leaks around seems, welds and gaskets. Check for proper operational temps.
Darken the room and put a strong light inside the cold firebox. Check for light escaping from the areas listed above.
