I HAVE A WOOD FURNACE AND WHEN I FILL IT IT SMOKES EXCESSIVELY. THIS HAS BEN A PROBLEM SOME LAST YEAR AND MORE THIS YEAR I NEED HELP!!!

How are you loading the fire box? Tightly packed will smoke more than loosley packed. Size of splits also makes a difference.

Welcome to the forum SLP6963.

Yes. More information is needed. What kind of wood are you burning? How has it been seasoned? How do you load the stove, etc.

When was the flue last swept, especially the cap and screen?

The wood furnace is an older model, a Surefire 101, The stove pipe comes straight out of the back and a 90 deg to the chimney. I have cleaned the furnace completely. The stove pipes are clean and the chimney is clean. Up until recently I have not had to stuff the furnace full so it has been lightly packed. It is cold enough now to put more in the keep the house warm. My wood is cut to 22" peices and split into 6-8" sizes. Would capping the chimney help eliminate the cold down draft? Thanks everyone for your help.

typically if you have a cold down draft it is because you are not getting the fire hot enough to create the right draft conditions. Try building your fire smaller but hotter at first with small splits and lots of air. Did you recently start using a differant wood supply?
