So wood is touching the glass... problem?

I have a piece of wood that's tip is touching the glass. Is this something I need to address? I'm fighting with the whole "CAT stoves work best in batches, once you load it, don't open the stove." Thoughts?

Probably won't hurt a thing (might dirty the window), but if it bugs you, open the door, poke it with your handy wood poker, shut the door, and relax.

It's happened to me..I just leave it there.
What you don't want to do is shove wood in deeper trying to shut the door..I have read on here that it happens with poor results!

Gotcha on forcing the door closed, this isn't the case. But so long as the ceramic glass can handle some wood up against it (extra heat?), it's staying there.

It leaves a "love stain" but it won't harm your glass. Usually it burns off either way if you have an airwash system.

Well with the BK Princess Insert at 1 dot on the bimetal thermostat, there ain't a whole lot of burning going on, just coals loafing along and 78F in the stove room, haha!

Added another fan to the other doorway in the living room, down to 75F. I also shut the doors to my 2nd and 3rd bedrooms we only use for guests. I figure why heat the whole house if I don't have to. A low of 33F tonight, I bet those closed off rooms will get down into the 50s?

My Wife freaks when this happens.....she also believes the wood should not touch the side bricks

Yeah after a few days of low/long burns, u can only see in there at just the right angle....BUT, when I am reloading and charring the load, some of it comes off down low on the glass.

You have no hope of burning that junk off the glass but after cleaning it off it will be slower to accumulate, and won't cover as much once you start burning hotter in the winter. Mine is pretty gunked up right now too.

Oh and wood on the glass is no problem so long as it is just barely touching with no wedge action, force, or even momentum from falling forward onto the glass. With proper north south loading as is recommended with the BK, you should never have a wood on glass issue.

I guess I'm the only one doing E/W, hrmmm... I really didn't think it mattered since the speed of the burn is all about the bimetal thermostat.

Does BK officially mention N/S in their literature? I can't find it in the manual for my insert:

I never said that BK recommended one way over the other. Most of us using them certainly do. That is, if you want a superior burning experience including not having to worry about wood rolling out of the door.

BK does recommend a maximum wood length. I cut mine at 16" or less so that I can easily load the stove and also so that I can lend or sell wood to other burners.

From the comments in that thread looks like you lose some length going N/S, but generally my 16-18in splits will fit N/S anyway and I agree it will be easier to pack it in. I'll give it a try.

It can brake it if that split smacks it like what happened to me a few nights ago a costly lesson for me.
