Splitfire Purchase

After months of deciding on a splitter and choosing Splitfire I am having difficulty finding someone to sell to me. The dealer gave me a few options somewhat local to 15 miles north of Boston but all these places don't sell Splitfires. They can place a special order into the dealer mark it up a few bucks and sell it to me but it is a one off for them. I'm hoping to buy from a store that carries the brand, sells them regularly, knows their alway around maintenance/warranty issues etc. I know Splitfires are a Canada machine but I would have expected more of a presence behind these units. Does anyone know of a shop that sells these either in MA, NH, VT or ME?

I believe Teixeiras Polaris in Hyde Park, NY sells them but it may be too far for you.

They are local and I have seen them at the Topsfield fair.
Nice but couldn't talk the boss to letting me get one.
Just an idea since you're having trouble finding the Splitfire splitter.

Have you tried calling the "factory"? http://www.split-fire.com/contact.html I called them for dealer info in the past and they were more than helpful. Its a family run operation I think, and I got a quick email reply from one of the owners with all the info I was requesting, including nearby dealers, prices and what was available in stock.

Like Timberwolf, they are a "higher end" product, so they arent in every store, which can be a little frustrating when trying to purchase one. There might only be a couple actual dealers in your state, in my province I believe there are only 2 or 3 dealers.

I have called spitfire directly. I talked with Chris who was extremely knowledgable and helpful. However from what I can tell their distribution is not geared to where I live. I got a couple of leads that haven't panned out yet but I hope to find one soon.

Timberwolf looks like a sweet machine but I'm stuck on having a high working height and a hydraulic lift. With a bad back these are must options in my opinion. I also think I would prefer a wedge on ram versus a push through machine.

Too bad. He didnt give you the name of the area rep did he? That might be your best bet.

He did give me the area rep who in turn gave me five or so local shops. However most of these shops haven't sold any Splitfires in years.

Earlier today I found a shop in NH that seems knowledgable about the brand and models which is a good sign. Just waiting on pricing. Hope its reasonsable.

Might be worth forwarding that info to the rep. No sense wasting potential customers time running to dealers who have no real interest in representing the brand.

It's the 3 point version for a tractor. I wanted to build my own power pack. Mainly because I wanted it to be 5hp electric. I also added a log lift and if memory services me made it 30" high... maybe 32"?

It's been great so far. In my opinion the taller height is a must. Saves the back big time. The log lift can do 2nd duty as a table so if you have help they can pile the wood there ready to be split.

On mine I think i should of gone with a small res 5gal vs the 10 gal I went with. It just takes forever for the hydraulics to heat up working in the cold 0*C. and they never really get hot in the summer just warm. The only other thing, electric specific is I should have sprung for a VFD. So down the road I might repurpose the 5hp and upgrade to a 5 or 7.5 hp with VFD. The reason for the VFD, is the electric motor runs at it's RPM no matter what so when starting with cold hydraulics (0*C) I had to turn my pressure down 300psi as not to over load the motor. Still splits everything fine. A VFD would reduce the rpm and not over load the motor. It's never been an issue but I'm hesitate to lend it out when its cold, I only do that in the warmer months.

I haven't bothered calling timberwolf yet. Still waiting to hear on pricing from the shop I called over the weekend. They seemed knowledgable. More importantly it sounds like they stand behind their products, service, warranty etc.

Timberwolf is on the short list if this falls through.

Quality and price go hand in hand and, Timberwolf has them both.. If money isn't an issue, buy the timberwolf.
Problem I have is that if money wasn't an issue I wouldn't be burning wood...
