I was wondering whether anyone had tried or owns one of these and what there thoughts are on them.

I am insterested in a 8lb 36" as I have a Fiskars also and this will be for those tough/ large rounds and driving wedges ( I cut alot of 3' plus diameter trees). I recently broke my 2nd fiberglass Truper and while I know I abused the first one (learning), the second had its head come loose (down the shaft, not off the end like when you have over-struck to many times). So, I am looking for a better quality splitting maul. I am curious whether these hold up as claimed and whether the steel rods add heft that becomes problematic. I am not muscle bound but I can swing a 8# fiberglass maul for a couple hours if the splitting isn't too crazy hard.

Thanks

I'd love to try that Wilton splitter.

I've also been wanting to try the Fiskars spalthammer that looks to be similar in size and function, but I haven't seen them being sold in USA.

Haven't tried the wilton but the stihl PA80 is a great maul for the big stuff. I like it much more than the fiskers.

Interesting head design. Fiskars profile, but in an 8# head. The 2# Fiskars is just too light for a lot of wood. Maybe will start into the wood easy, then the wider area where the handle goes in would pop the wood apart? I wonder too about the "steel-core" handle. Too much weight there would make it hard to get speed. My old 8# maul has a small hole, and the fiberglass replacement handle is about to break again. You need to buy the Bash and file a report so I know if I should buy it. ==c I wonder how much it is? It's the only tool that doesn't have a "buy online" option. The sledge hammer is one Benjamin.... _g

The cheapest I have found it for sale (including shipping) is at Zoro Tools for $105 with no shipping charge.

If it really was unbreakable I would buy one as I would rather avoid spending $25 every year on the Truper, although I am apprehensive about the head profile. $105 seems a little much for a maul that I would be buying online with no testimonies. Unfortunately locally I have only seen cheap-o mauls for sale. The two closest Stihl dealers don't even carry the PA80 mentioned above. Then again everyone and their dog seems to have a splitter so I do not think there is much of a market for mauls. I have access to a splitter, but for several reasons I would rather split by hand.

The bash 6lb maul lists on Amazon for $85.99

In the original post I specified a 8lb. Are you recommending a 6lb maul over an 8lb?
The six is easier to swing but sometimes you need the additional arse of the eight. I've got both, and the 4-pounder with the built in wedge, and a Fiskars. And of course a Monster Maul. ==c

There is a small hardware store near me that stocks these bash tools. They are very sturdy made tools, pretty nice balance on the maul your looking at also. You might be able to find a local retailer......Wilton bench vises are pretty prevelant. Here is a dealer locator page

I know, I am unsure what the poster I quoted was trying to get at. I thought perhaps he was trolling and I was trying to call him out on it. Unless I am mistaken the X27 is around 6#'s, so again I'm not sure what the quoted poster was getting at.

Thank you, I never thought to look for a local dealer. It turns out Fastenal is a dealer for Wilton tools. I would have never thought to look there as I knew them as, well, a fastener supply company. I will be stopping the next time I am in town. Hopefully they will have one in stock.
