Tired of waiting 8 -14 mins for start up. What is a good way to light quickly/safely??

Merry Christmas everyone!!

starter gel will work add about half a cup of pellets into the pot, squirt the gel starter on the pellets , put the pot in , light with a long lighter, turn the unit on but leave the door slightly cracked so the gel can get the fuel started before pellets fall in. once the pellets start to ember up ease the door closed so the unit will start feeding and she should take right off.

lighting with a mapp torch is doable however you would usually get smoke spillage out the top of the door opening as you are "cooking" the pellets up to light them. if you dont mind the minor smoke spillage it is certainly somthing you could do safely

I made a bunch of starters by filling paper egg carton cups with sawdust and pouring paraffin wax over the sawdust.
The sawdust soaks up the wax and when lit, burns for a long time, allowing the pellets to catch fire. It leaves no residue.

I light them with a small butane torch purchased at Harbor Freight.

My bride stopped in to one of our local dollar stores and bought a large container (1qt) of hand sanitizer. IMSMC, she paid $4.67 out the door. Something to consider.

Merry Christmas one and all :)

How old is your stove? Igniter in all my stoves lights within 5 minutes. May be getting tired.

I lit my EF-2 for years with a torch. Works great. Takes less than a minute.
I used one of those Bernzomatic TS4000 push button stater ones.

Start stove.
Handful of pellets in the burnpot.
Hit with the torch until burning well.
Close door.
Enjoy heat.

i hveneverused a blowtorch for starting my pellet stove that is but i am pretty sure either would work, if fact i bet one of my triple flame cigar lighters would work, though it my take a while, LOL

I used 1 of those Larger "Camping" sized propane bottles.
Only because I had a case of them.
Used it for 3 years no problems or need to replace bottle.

I use hand sanitizer occasionally when I want to start the stove without vacuuming it out.
As others have said, light it up, keep door open and when it starts burning good close door.

I have a coffee can of pellets soaked in diesel and a splash of gasoline. Put about a half a cup in and light it and forget it. Harvester takes off every time.

What balls he has!

Alaska Aviator has the win for most daring fire starter.

Not just inviting fire into the house with the stove, but a lot of danger with Diesel/Gas mixture!!!

I bet it smells great in the house too:p
