I bought 2 20" Oregon chains and best Oregon bar from Bailey's for $79.99. Chains were chisels. They are on special. Have been running husky h47 on my stilh seems to do just fine. Been cutting several loads of hickory and oak this week while ground is froze.

I do prefer the Stihl RS chain but also a happy user of woodland pro on my 25" bar. The woodland is quite a bit less $$$.

I just checked and the Stihl is $29.99 for a loop 3/8" .050" 72 dl, a saw shop in the opposite direction has Oregon for $14.99. I prefer Stihl but not at 2X the dollars.

Woodland Pro is Carlton I believe. I haven't used any Carlton since the late 70's early 80's so I have no input on it.

If find that it is about a half a step behind the Stihl RS chain for durability. I think the Stihl chain is actually harder material but I don't have anything to back that up with.

I lost my pocket Rockwell tester in the woods.

I've had good luck with Oregon chain on my Dolmar - and for about $18/loop vs. about $26/loop for Stihl at the dealer - I'm content. Cheers!

Files make a pretty good Rockwell tester. I know files last longer with Oregon chain than they do with Stihl.

Around here the Stihl dealers all sell them 2 for 1.5 - or 1/2 off the second loop if you buy two at a time. I think I pad $26.00 x 1.5 for the two loops I recently picked up.

Up here that would be $45 for two chains opposed to the $30 I spent on the Oregon chains. I can justify a couple of dollars difference but not 50%. Mr. Urban what size were those chains?

I think they were around 23.00 x 1.5 for my 18" but those are the smaller ones

Probably 6-8 years ago I bought a spool of .325 and 3/8 each of RS as there was talk of it being possibly no longer produced , so much for rumors . Anyways I just make up my own and I am sure I will have more then I will use in my life time.

A small local Stihl dealer here sells it for $1 bar inch. Stihl or Oregon same price. I have a loop of the RS but I have not tried it yet. The Oregon seems to be better than the Carlton and Windsor that I received when I bought my saw.

I am a long way from Fife Lake - had a buddy that lived up there for a while so I know right where you are. I am 30 miles east of Lansing off 96 but I know of two Stihl dealers that offer the 2 for 1.5 deal most of the time. I would ask at a Stihl shop and see if they will honor the deal. The dealers are in Okemos and Williamston if that helps. Midwest power equipment and I cannot remember the name in Williamston but it's on Williamston rd. if you need to look it up. They sell the Big Boy JD farm equipment too if you are looking online.

I have 5 Stihl dealers within 30 mi. None of them offer any chain deals so I drive 35 mi. in the other direction and buy Oregon chain. I do like Stihl chain but not at 2 times the price better. My Dad had a saw shop in Lansing in the 50's, Cummings saw shop was the name. Macs and Homies were the saws he sold.

I bought a loop of that at one of my dealers for $24 with tax. Same chain your talking bout.

All the dealers around me also offer the Stihl "buy one get another for half off" deal. I prefer Stihl chains over Oregon, my experience has been the Stihl chains stay sharp a lot longer and out last the Oregon chains. I'm honestly thinking about giving the Stihl Duro carbide chain a try. Expensive, but you might be able to get a whole year of performance without ever sharpening. Anyone here try one?

I hope so cuz more than likely you won't have the right equipment to sharpen it.
