It has been a few years and these cracks can only get worse, So I just pulled out the grinder and Vulcan Mig, ground it to clean it, zapped it, ground the weld down, painted it and put in a new flange gasket. Hope that will preserve it? How does it look?

Looks good to me Don, if the fitment works I say well done, I have yet to weld anything on a stove....luckily
 
Mine is stainless (pot) so a few years back, I TIG welded a crack and so far holding up just fine.

Cool, did you use straight Argon gas and stainless rods?

P61 is a solid machine, I have 2 of them. :-)
