Stove pipe soot problem

HI,
Seeking help from stove pipe mavens!
I'm a little concerned about the exterior top of my 8" stove pipe. Please see the attached image.

Background:

• Using a Lennox Country Canyon ST310 for about 8 years-professionally installed (very satisfied with it)
  
• Chimney sweep cleans stove and pipe interior every other year
• Burn ONLY seasoned hard woods ( 2 years min age)
• Try to keep stove pipe temps between 600 & 800 for clean burns
• Only occasionally do we do an overnight burn ( with damper pretty much closed down)

Is this normal wear? Why the soot? Should we be concerned re: creosote?

We measure with a probe into the double pipe.

Then your temps sound right also. By the way what you showed us is a chimney not stove pipe.

You're going to get a little soot there. Doesn't look like anything to worry about.

It does have a screen...problem is I can't get up on the roof to look closely at it. I rely on the chimney sweep. He's not the greatest, but he does a good cleaning.The screen is intact, just totally soot covered. I see neighbors who have stoves and their chimney tops are not as black as mine.

But If everyone thinks this is par for the course based on our burning pattern, quality of wood and maintenance, I'll sleep better. You all have such a wealth of knowledge!

It does have a screen...problem is I can't get up on the roof to look closely at it.

When looking from the ground they are hard to see and can be blocked enough to affect draft, even though they look pretty clean. As long as you aren't having any draft issues, I guess it's OK...

My screen used to get clogged all the time with my last stove, I'd have to get on the roof and clean it halfway through the season, lucky mine is easy to get to. Always burn well seasoned wood but would still muck up. I haven't had to go up the last couple years with the new stove.
