Stovepipe brand, quality, price discussion

I'm in the midst of having my existing chimney (30y/o Sellkirk Metalbestos) replaced, and looking over my options for SS Class A piping. Right now I could get everything I need in the Supervent (Menards) lineup, but was curious if I should look at other piping manufacturers? (Simpson Duravent?) Is there a reason to go with one brand or another? I know they all test to the same standards, but there are higher priced options out there. Is there a reason why I should look at them? Right now, my only reason to go with the Supervent stuff is ease of purchasing. (menards is 15mins away)

As you likely know, the various brands of pipe are not interchangeable, so the only thing I would caution is in the case where you are gonna salvage and re-use some of the Metalbestos. Or some of the associated parts [connectors, adapters, etc.] Meaning, if you are, then sticking with Selkirk is your option.

It is possible that there are now different brands of pipe that will interconnect; I don't know of any, but I haven't heard of any.

Thanks Steve! Looking to do a complete remove/replace job. Metalbestos stuff goes to the scrap heap. Only thing I'm re-using are the holes cut in the ceiling/floor/roof.

I just read here somewhere that supervent at menard's is on sale thru this week. I think it is $59 for a 6"x36" pipe. That's cheap. I've used it for two chimneys, and I'd do it again. Especially for that price.

Superpro/Supervent is made by Selkirk, who also makes Metalbestos. If you can score a 6 x 36 for 60 bucks, I certainly would, that's good pricing if the associated other pieces are comparably priced. We sell Superpro and Ventis class A at the store, typically runs about 148 bucks for a 6 x 36.

Whenever I have seen it on sale there, it's always been the entire line, including 8".

I don't care for the cap or the storm collar, and I get that from the metalbest line somewhere else.

Appreciate the feedback guys. Supervent it is....I went and got a sorry slip on the 36"ers since they're out of stock.
For jeff_t....which cap/storm collar do you prefer over the supervent style one, and does the other cap thread onto the supervent pipe OK?

This is the cap I used. It's easier to take off, and easy to add a screen to to keep birds out.

This storm collar fits down over the flashing better, at least the two that I used. I'm not 100% sure that the flashing Menards had was the Supervent flashing, and the storm collar just didn't fit right. YMMV as far as what your store has. I should've snapped some pics, but I didn't.

I bought my supervent from lowes so maybe my storm collar is differant cause it fit great! As far as the cap i dont have a problem with it, i just added some ss lashing wire to make sure no birdies get in there like ive heard.

It was only 30 bucks!

Good idea cableman! The wire mod is now on my list, as I've got 2 supervent chimney caps like that.
The metalbest cap shown above does look like a little better design for the times its raining sideways.

I need to put some spikes on the top of my cap. Doggone flickers like to use it as a sounding board to attract mates. I wouldn't mind except they like to do it right after sunrise.

I think there's different standards. The US standard is one chimney fire and the Canadian standard is three (I think - you'll have to look it up).

I'm going with the Olympia Ventis with the 316 stainless inside. That way I can hook any sort of heating appliance to it.
