Anybody here use their heating/ac fan (without heat on) to circulate heat generated by their stove throughout their house? Looking for tips and suggestions on doing this!

are you talking about using the blower from your central heating system?? this would provide a more "balanced" temperature throughout the house only if the system is balanced properly to begin with. if there is a return air inlet (cold air return) in all rooms (excepting bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms for obvious reasons) then yes this will help. i don't think you will get the results you wish as the room with the wood stove would still be the warmest. this is a frequently asked question on this forum and it seems the most common answer is to point a slow speed fan to move air from the wood stove to other areas of the house. hope this answers or helps.

We leave ours on circulate all the time. It's a setting, like on, auto, and off. Our thermostat runs the fan on low speed for about twenty minutes of each hour, if it is not otherwise running. The setting is not adjustable (dagnabit). Our air handler's low speed is really low. We can barely tell that it is running.

We have four air returns, including one in the basement.

We also have an ERV (energy recovery ventilator) that dumps heat/humidity exchanged fresh air into the air handler plenum, so that also helps circulate the air. It runs 24/7. We also run our ceiling fans most of the time to help circulate the air.

We could just leave the air handler fan on all the time, but don't feel the need to do so.

I've tried it. It doesn't do much.

If the room with the stove is 80F, and the coldest room is 50F, then running the air handler will bring that cold room up to maybe 60F or so. My return is in the room with the stove.

If your ducts run through conditioned space it probably works a lot better than if they run in a crawl space like mine do.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have two returns on either side of my stove however I just thought I would be able to get my second floor a little warmer! Thanks again!

We have a forced hot air system...........we use the fan in the system (without the heat) to circulate the air.

We have found that the only way it proves effective, is if we leave it on most of the time. Then it DOES help balance the temps. Using the fan only once and an while, has little or no benefit.
