I appreciate the knowledge I have learned here from all of you.
As a complete newbie and I mean a noob..... BBQ on cottonwood fresh split. Yummm... This site has provided me with all the knowledge and then some. Shoot.... I just learned what a maul was..

You're welcome. ;);lol Seriously, these folks are the ones who finally got me 'fired up' about the importance of getting ahead on the wood supply so that you've got good fuel (even if it's mostly Red Oak like we've got here.) Not to mention that my ID skills are way better, thanks to the years of experience shared here. And heck, this place is just downright fun. :)

Maybe an armadillo from Amarillo would be delicious cooked on cottonwood? Are armadillos edible? Taste like chicken?

Funny you say that.. a few nights ago I smoked some armadillo eggs on hickory, apple, and cherry wood. Quite tasty and yes they had a strong chicken taste. (pepper stuffed with chicken & cheese wrapped in Bacon.)
 
Contrary to some , I learned the value of dry wood before I came here but , on here I have learned how to make that happen, AND

A third benefit is the great amount of encouragement people give. You'd think people would start to get annoyed when us newbies ask the questions that have already been asked and answered like drying times, stacking techniques, wood ids, etc. But everyone here seems to be patient with and even encouraging to us rookies. Pretty cool!

There's a word you don't hear much any more. Kanipshin. My dad used it alot:)
 
The splitter does work vertically;).and you don't have to be ashamed to use it that way!;lol
