And even with the rec-room patio doors open I am cooking in that room. I don`t know what is with that stupid picture on enviro`s website? The kodiak bear is black not grey.

Temp on top reading 475 and gonna run it to 650 before turning it down. Secondaries are sweet, heat is awesome!!

That looks nice. Your all set for next winter. Congrats.

By George I think you've got it! Looking good there!

How is the 5.5 liner working out for you?

Looking good. Welcome to the 21st Century!

What did ya do with the old PE?

The liner is fine,no problems whatsoever. It has just reached 600 so gonna start throttling it down slowly. Would kinda like to get the paint cured before watching the stanley cup playoffs on the big screen tonite. The difference in how quickly this thing pumps out the heat between the old and the new is fantastic!

Hey BG: check your local forcast. For here it calls for rain/snow showers on Sat. High 42 and low of 32.

You think that 650 is enough to cure the paint? Then let it cruise around 400-500 for a few more hours? I`m not overly concerned about over-firing, this little bear has 5/16 steel on the top.

Hey that looks great!! Almost makes me wish for winter again... NOT!! :)

Enjoy!

It`s in the buy and sell for 300 or 2 cords of wood. wanna buy it? ;-P

You were right on the money BB when you said that I would notice a huge difference in heat output. And I don`t know if it is my imagination or what? but it seems to consume wood more slowly while still producing tonnes of heat. Kinda like there is way more charcoaling going on than with the old beast.

Ain`t gonna say though, that I can`t wait for next winter, nope. Gardening is my hobby and am really gonna enjoy the spring summer and fall. Take care and keep in touch.

Good lookin insert George. How does the blower work? Is it quiet?

Good to hear from you Todd: to us the blower seems exceptionally quiet even on high. but that might just be cause we have a doorway fan always running leading away from the rec-room which is somewhat noisy. but we need that doorway fan to move the heat upstairs. so my opinion might be biased. but I sure do love this insert, and here I was calling it an ugly, even before I got it uncrated..

I am going to phone sherwood industries tomorrow and ask them to look at my pics on this website and compare to their pics.and then try to explain to the marketing manager, how their site does such a great injustice to a wonderful product. Just look at enviro.com, and it looks an ugly gray. just pathetic marketing for a handsome and qualilty built product.

Don`t take me the wrong way here, no name calling, no negatives, just going to point out that I am pleased with their product and don`t want them to go the way of VC. If anyone will listen there, I just want them to know that they could do so much better, specially when they have such a quality product to sell. Like how many inserts or stoves are built today with 5/16 steel on top? I mean this is a wonderfully built insert.

And of course they build these beasts, like PE does right here on vancouver island. support your local business whether they appreciate it or not :cheese:

Looks great. You're all set for next year.

Yep, getting colder again. Not good for the garden, eh? With all the trees getting leaves, I'm ready and itching for spring temps. We're getting low on wood, so I'm just doing evening fires now. But is sounds like Friday night will need a good sized fire.

The paint is cured and oils are burned off when it stops smoking. I'd prolly take it up to 700 for a half-hour, then call it done.

Sonny, that insert is a looker! I agree you should question their marketing efforts cause that's a beauty!

Agreed. I like the simple lines of the stove and prefer it in all black. Has that Johnny Cash look. Very nice.

Nah. Paint the sucker. Funny how black steel ain't welcome in the BG house but black cast is.

I would have been pissed off if the local "so called dealer" for Enviro had actually sold them. I would have had to paint a black insert grey. That was one of the things I liked about it.

Have you checked out that website--?? that grey is so ugly,.. It is almost stupid how the marketing dept. missed the boat on this handsome bear. Look at some of my previous posts, was all set to introduce this thing as the ugly bear-- You can`t believe how surprised I was to see this in operation? Yes, I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, bult I actually think this bear is quite handsome, actually quite adorable, and very productive. :-P And I didn`t even spring for the gold painted door!!

Different strokes for different folks. I like the look of a few of the new Caddy's too, but am not likely to own one. It's one thing to appreciate a beauty passing by on the street and another to wake up to her in the morning. :coolsmirk:

Looks good Sonny. I was expecting an ugly stove based on your previous discussions but that one looks great. I expected some of the big blaze king's style mized with those old earth stove tubes and maybe some steel cutouts and a teensy weensy window.

Sweet looking insert sonny....hope it works out well for ya.

Finally, I am not alone!

Looks good Sonny, glad you are happy with it. I know my wallet is happier this winter!

Yes, I was impressed at how easy secondary burns are with this unit.

How did it work out contacting Sherwood industries? Personally I find the person that answers the phone and the emails (I think the same person), is a little rough around the edges. Needs a little education on people skills. I hope they read this. I had a few simple and straight forward questions, and she acted like it was a burden to answer them.

On that same note, yes, I am very happy with the quality. It is built like a tank, cranks out the heat, the blower motor is built well and looks and feels of higher quality. The variable speed switch, while I never had a problem, seems a little cheap, but like I said, no problems so far. The finish is holding up well also.

Very nice install, looks good. Nice job. KD

Now-please please, take some pics and get rid of that horrible kodiak pic that the company puts out. I know that you will come out with a better pic for the avatar than I did. Besides I would really like to see what yours looks like. In case you didn`t notice, we are kinda in the minority here  However, we both have a sense of good taste and keen sense about quality when we see it. Ya gotta love the anti armour piercing 5/16 steel right? Sure makes me feel comfy.

OK, OK, soon a new avatar!

The limestone is on the walls, the solid oak driftwood mantle (lake erie) is milled, cut, and mounted. Just gotta put some fiinishing touches on the custom surround (weathered raw steel) and the limestone on the new raised hearth is about done. A little grout and we will be ready for next year and a new avatar. BUT! sorry, I'm going north to do some fishing this weekend, so it ain't gonna be done then! :)

A man has to have his priorities you know. BTW, don't tell the wife, she thinks I'm going to get more wood for next year. Little does she know that it is ready to just be loaded into the truck, so I guess I will have a little time to go fishing while I'm there. KD
