The bugs are alive

I have noticed over the past few days, with the weather warming up, that the bugs (flies, spiders, moths) are starting to move around in the wood piles.
I notice this more as I bring the wood into the house to throw into the stove.
My schedule is that I bring a load of wood in from the pile in a small trailer attached to my quad. The wood sits in the garage until I bring 4 - 5 pieces to throw in the stove.
I notice as I bring the pieces in that there are these bugs. But, luckily, they are still pretty docile, so, they do not usually fly away yet. Just sit on the wood until they go in the fire

Just one more good reason to not store wood indoors. House or attached garage. When you take wood into the house, put it into the stove.

Saw a huge black spider on a split yesterday, he didn't make it into the house. Surprised he survived so many sub zero nights, he was a biggun

Bugs have been surviving "brutal cold" winters for thousands of years (or longer if you buy into Evolution).

A cold winter every once in a while isn't gonna cause extinction. (for bugs I mean)
Though there are a few bug species I wouldn't miss if they went the way of the Dodo Bird.

They go kind of into a suspended dormant sleep. Wooley bear caterpillars look dead or frozen but they're very much alive as well as most bugs. Just bring them inside for a few hours.
