I need to find a thin stone mass to use for storing heat. Would natural stone tile work? If so, what kinds should I be looking for?

Anything that is big and heavy should work. Stone, tile, soapstone, etc. I would question the thermal storage of a thin tile, though. If you actually do the math, it is surprising how little energy is there unless you go big.

I am not sure of your application, but for relatively thin material with thermal mass - it is hard to beat plate steel.

For one of my Frankenwebers. I am trying to come up with a temporary mass solution for a mini metal stove/oven. Lighter is better in this case.

Got ya. Unfortunately "Light" and "mass" are arch enemies.
Exactly. Heavy stone is best. Maybe try lots of smaller river rock.
