Time to build a hearth again!

Hello

Well this is fairly simple 9 - 12" square tile hearth for a friend. Hearth with amber rope light in a 1/2" groove in the overhang with 2x6s and 1" solid pine trim. Cement board and Sand color ceramic tiles with Sandstone color grout and a 1/4" finished plywood back.

It is not done yet, I filled the nail holes today and sanded it. I picked up the tile, mastik and grout last night. I could not get a hold of my LED rope light supplier, so I will be calling another tomorrow to see it they can provide me with a custom cut. Also have to put pre-stain and stain and clear coat on it. So it will be a few more days maybe a week.

I have a question for you guys? Should I hook up the rope light to come on:
A. When you plug it into a wall outlet
B. When you turn the room light's on
C. When the Stove's room blower comes on
D. When the Stove's auger comes on
E. When the Stove's exhaust blower comes on

Interesting because I just fixed a Lopi Pioneer bay stove where the auger stopped when the feed rate knob was turned to low heat. With the knob set to low heat the auger idiot light led on the control panel still went on and off fine but no AC was sent to the Auger! Therefore if the rope light was connected to the same ac line as the auger it would be the best indicator if the Auger was working properly! ! !

I would rather put the Strobe Light on the auger and disco ball on the exhaust blower. Then maybe a flood lamp that varied with the intensity of the room blower. Then have the Ohio Players in the background singing Fire! Does that give you a good picture?

Normally you have everything done when you start a thread Don? All your stoves are not found out about, until they have been bought, brought home, sanded, painted, polished, cleaned, lubed, and lit

So waiting for pics is kinda hard..

I say nay to the Disco, Strobe lights, and Rope light. If its for a friend, then they may not want a flashing light in there home. My Quad lights up a lot of the house (centrally located/open floor plan) and any extra light would surely not be wanted. Especially at night. My opinion, anyways. Maybe they want there house to look like a Disco Inferno Not me.

I was kidding about the flood light, strobe light and the disco ball was not my idea.
However my friend really wants the soft amber rope light under the overhang of the raised hearth that will not interfere with the glowing fire. That is the whole reason for the overhang and making the raised hearth a little higher.
The light will make the hearth glow and not shine near the fire! A nice touch but harder to build!
I could not get a hold of my rope light supplier in the big apple so I found this place near Denver Colorado!
They will do custom cuts of LED rope light in 3'3" sections! If the custom cuts are not 3'3" then it is not LED rope light!

Sorry for the wait but I am getting there.
I had a setback because the 3/4" plywood was bowed and the cement board had a hump in the middle of the back. So I removed the cement board and nailed the plywood with Big nails to the frame. Then put the cement board back. Much better and the tiles are flat now! Whew!
Then I tiled the top and put Pre-Stain on the Pine trim.
