Yesterday a buddy of mine was having some tree work done,,he asked me if I wanted some wood? Hell yea I said....so I showed up 8AM....FREEZING, WINDY, COLD, and Ice all over his 150' long driveway. The tree company came rolling in, Chippers, a Huge Boom truck, and an array of chainsaws that started on the first pull and cut hardwoods like butter.....7 guys, the one guy with a head set operating the boom, talking to one guy that was up higher in the trees at 4 Deg than I could believe...after the setup, the climber grabbed a hold of and tied himself off to the big hook and weight at the bottom of the boom. Then the operated lifted him straight up into this Massive Oak...from there the climber detached from the boom, tied himself off to the tree, then tied the top of the tree off to the boom....made one cut, and a huge piece, SNAPPED, CRACKED, and came swinging down coming to rest 50' off the ground right over the plywood that they lined the driveway with....the climber was left in the tree, with a satisfied look on his face....no matter how many times I see this, i am amazed, I have nothing but respect for a well run tree crew. With everything going on yesterday, picking up the wood was not really an option. So I talked to the Forman, he was polite and asked me what sizes I wanted. 16-18" OK, sounds good, thanks, went back today, found a nice pile of rounds..loaded and moved them to my place....notice the empty racks in the back...

Don't know about you but every time I hear a tree crew in my neighborhood, I approach and ask for the wood, sometimes they look at you like you just walked up and asked for a Ham Sandwich, but every once in awhile they say, SURE, WHATS YOUR ADDRESS?.....

Works best with coffee, breakfast, or a 12'er or case of beer depending on the time of day and weather conditions. Rumor has it this method may get you some surprise wood from time to time that is greatly appreciated even if unexpected.
