Tree of Heaven

Ok, so I've heard good and bad about this tree. Yesterday I cut up a truckload of it that was already in log form and less than a mile from my house.

It split nice and easy and the saw enjoyed cutting it. Is this stuff going to burn decent?

I think it will burn very fast. Not rated high. Might be good shoulder stuff

Trash tree that's also invasive. Kill all of them that you can. I burn it, but mostly I just kill the tree since I have so many of them. Anything less that 6-8' gets left in the woods to become worm food.

I'm hoping the Ideal Steel can tame it a bit. I left most of it in bigger chunks. This wood is so easy to process. I was told it was the only one on the property. I have 3 years of hardwoods so I'm just trying to mix in some softer stuff.

Since you already have it bucked and split, mize well burn it. As the folks mentioned it is a low BTU wood, better suited for mild days when you burn for the aesthetic appeal. It's not much for heating your home.

I've been burning it almost all winter, got a huge one dropped off at the house by a local tree service, the base was something like 40 inches in diameter. It dries quick and is light when dry, but since it is wood it burns.

Does it stink when you burn it? I have read that several times but never burned any; we have several huge ones here at work and I looked at some of the branches that fell and were dry and it didn't look like it would be any good, but like you said it burns!

I have burned some and did not notice any peculiar smell. It does burn fast and hot. Definitely not an overnight burn.

I have never burned any but have heard it's only a little better than burning balsa wood.

Be careful bringing this tree to your property,they are very very invasive.One little seed could take over your neigborhood for years to come.

It produces a foul smelling odor to prevent and/or kill off any nearby competitor trees. That's why it's so important to kill them all, wherever you find them; otherwise they'll take over.

Also, when you do cut them down, have a sprayer of near full strength of Roundup (glyphosate) handy: When a tree of crap (heaven) is cut down or damaged, it will respond with runners in an attempt to protect itself. Once you cut the tree down, spray the stump liberally within 10 minutes or so.

I took down a big one a couple days ago. The full size rounds were about 18" or so. I could lift them easily to split them. If they had been oak or hickory, forget it. I don't bother with any of it unless it's 6-8' or bigger. I have crap loads to kill on my +35 acre farm, I hate the things.
